Dropperfly fishing glossary
A second fly tied off the bend or eye of the lead fly, creating a multi-fly rig.
A dropper rig lets you fish two (or more) flies simultaneously. The most common setup is a dry-dropper: a buoyant dry fly on top with a nymph hanging below it on a length of tippet.
Common Setups
- Dry-Dropper: Dry fly + nymph 12–18" below
- Double Nymph: Heavy point fly + lighter dropper
- Tandem Dries: Two dry flies for different hatch scenarios
Check local regulations — some waters limit the number of flies.
